Mr. Cool

Connor was Mr. Cool the other day before our morning walk. I tried his sunglasses on him to see what he would do, and they did not bother him. He cracked me up in them, though!

We have been enjoying our daily walks, and have even started meeting some other mommies to go on walks as well. Aggie doesn't like when we meet the others, though, because she gets left at home. I love getting out and getting fresh air, and Connor seems to be enjoying the walks a little more these days. I have to admit, I do miss my jogging with him in my belly, though! Is it sad that I feel like I was in better shape as a full term/overdue preggo? I'm not supposed run with Connor in the jogging stroller yet, so runs are dependent on coordinating Hubby getting home from work/Connor's feeding schedule/our dinner, which means the runs have been hard to come by. The times I have gotten out, though, have felt great!

Speaking of outside, Connor's favorite thing to do these days is to sit on the porch and rock with his mama. (Front or back porch depends on the time of day - I prefer the back so Aggie can be out there with us, but that gets the afternoon sun right now!) We usually sit out there at least twice a day, and with the great weather I don't mind one bit!

This is a random tummy time picture, but I just love his expression!

Happy hump day!

Newborn pics!!

Well, if you are on facebook, you may have already seen these, but Heather posted Connor's newborn pictures!! Click here to check them out! I love them - they turned out great!! He slept pretty much the entire time, so most of them are sleepy shots. That was great, though, because I was worried he would fuss and not cooperate that day! He turned out o be an angel!

It is a beautiful day here in NC! I hope you have a nice Monday!

A big week!

Connor had a big week this week. Here are a few highlights:

Tuesday, we had our first play date. This was definitely more for the mommies (Connor slept the ENTIRE time!), but we had fun. We are planning another one for next week, and we are looking forward to a new little one hopefully joining us soon!

Thursday night, Connor had what I would call his first full night of sleep. He fell asleep around 9:30, just after The Office. He was stirring a little bit around 3 am, but when I checked on him, his eyes were still closed, so I just patted his belly, and he stopped fidgeting. Next thing I knew, it was 5:15 before I heard him again. I am not getting my hopes up that this will be a regular thing yet, but I will take it even once a week!

Tonight, we took Connor to another friend's house. He did great there! He was awake a happy for the first hour or so we were there, then he fell asleep in his Daddy's arms. We put him on the couch and I sat next to him, and he happily slept the rest of the time we were there. This kid can sleep through anything!

Finally, when we got home, I was getting him ready for bed and since I need to do some laundry, I had limited choices on jammies. I had been noticing that some of the 0-3 month pants were starting to look like capris, so I tried a 3-6 month pair of jammies on him, and they fit perfectly. Ahh...my little man is growing so fast!

Have a great weekend!

One month!

Wow...I cannot believe it has been a little month since our little blessing joined us. He has brought us more joy than I could have ever imagined. I love all the little things about him...his little nose and lips, his fingers and toes, the little noises he makes while eating and sleeping, his cute little yawns and sneezes...the list could go on and on. Being a mom has been one of the most rewarding things ever!

On a development front, I noticed that Connor seems to be seeing things better. For instance, he was looking at me today, and I moved my head, and he followed me with his eyes. We also have been playing with one of his toys that has a mirror on it, and it will hold his attention for quite some time! I love watching him learn and explore his new world.

Here are some pictures from his one month birthday!

fun weekend!

It was a beautiful weekend here in NC! The weather was great! Friday night, we sat out on the back porch and enjoyed the nice evening. Daddy even gave Connor his first bottle of pumped milk so mommy could have my first martini. I am spoiled! (c:

Saturday, we went to Target and he was an angel. Didn't make a peep the whole time we were there. (The opposite of the fit he threw at BRU earlier in the week when I was by myself!! Little stinker...) After that, we went to our neighbor's pee wee football game. It was fun to watch, but I was shocked by some of the fans, but that could be a whole separate post. Let's just say, the police were called and at least one person was escorted out. (This was all on the other team's side, which is where we happened to sit because we didn't know which team was theirs when we got there!) Connor snoozed through the whole game!

Sunday morning we went grocery shopping, and the little man was good there, too! We haven't ventured to church with him yet, but that will probably happen soon. I just don't know if I trust him to be quiet in the service with us, but I also don't really want to leave him in the nursery yet, either!

I am trying to decide if I am brave enough to take him to Kroger this afternoon all by myself! I got a little spoiled this weekend having hubby with us know that one of us could take him out if he got fussy.

Update: Connor was an angel today shopping!! I originally planned on going to just Kroger, but since he was snoozing away in his carrier, we went to Target and TJ Maxx, too! He liked being snuggled up next to Mommy!

maybe he needs it?

So, now that I have discovered the lovely soothing technique demonstrated in the video linked below, last evening was a pretty quiet night. I was able to calm Connor down when he got worked up, and it worked like a charm...so I thought. Unfortunately, I feel like it backfired overnight. Connor has been a good sleeper for us at night, but that changed last night. We were up for 1 am to 3 am eating then struggling to go back to sleep. He cried like he usually does in the evening. This time, I just held him and let him cry. I didn't use my new tool. As soon as he got it out, he slept beautifully again. Coincidence, or does the crying help him release something internally that helps him sleep better, or does it just completely wear him out? Who knows...since our night was a little off last night, we enjoyed sleeping in a bit this morning! The afternoon nap is going well, too...check out family nap time on the couch today:

Gotta love it!!

Taking volunteers...

Last night was a fairly good night for Connor. He did have a bit of an "episode", but we were actually able to console him for once. However, I am taking volunteers to help with the method of consoling...I can't get the video to upload, but you can check it out here.

If anyone would like to come hold the hairdryer or contribute to the electric bill, please let me know! Haha...

Random thoughts

Below are some fairly random thoughts...all about the Little Man.

So, for a little over 10 days now, our little man has had regular nightly crying fits. I am not talking the normal fussiness...all out screaming, red faced, cannot be soothed by anything crying. We asked his pediatrician about it, and he said it could be colic. He occasionally has fits similar to this during the day, but the nightly bouts are fairly regular. As you can imagine, this absolutely breaks his mama's heart. We have tried several things to soothe him, with nothing working. If anyone has any suggestions, I am willing to try pretty much anything to help my little man out. If nothing, I know there is an end in site, but that doesn't really help when he is so upset!

TLC. Why do I let myself watch this during the day? If I watch Baby Story or Birthday, I can almost guarantee I will have tears streaming down my face by half way through the show. (If you know me, you know this isn't necessarily a pregnancy/hormone related thing...!) The thing that I find interesting about this is that when my own child made his entrance into the world, I was so physically and emotionally drained that I didn't cry! I may have shed a tear or two since then, so I have more than made up for it.

I may have gotten my first real smile today! One with emotion, not an accidental one or one as a result of gas pains! Of course he wouldn't do it for the camera (then did as soon as I turned it off!)

Connor is a true little man. His toots are often surprisingly loud. What cracks me up about this is that when he does that, Aggie will get up and leave the room. I am not sure if she thinks it is thunder or what! Also, he is napping right now and is grunting while filling up his diaper. Sorry if that is TMI...(c:

OK...I guess I better go get the laundry out of the dryer while the Little Man is still snoozing! I'll leave you with a recent nap time picture!

cancer sucks

Seven years ago today, one of the bravest, most beautiful girls I know went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. I know her smile is lighting up the Heavens and that she is in a better place, but that doesn't make me miss her any less. Lauren will forever be in my heart and mind. Cancer is leaving another mark on September 12 for me. Another radiant smile left this earth earlier this month after a 5 year battle with breast cancer. Janet will be laid to rest today in Texas, and I wish I could be there to say goodbye, but I know she knows my thoughts are there.

On another note, I packed up my maternity clothes today. It was a little bittersweet. Call me crazy, but I will miss being pregnant. I enjoyed having a belly and I loved feeling the little man moving around in there. Now, I consider myself very lucky because I felt great throughout my pregnancy, so maybe if I had morning sickness or an inability to sleep, I might feel differently about missing it! I am very happy to not be pregnant anymore, though, thanks to the little bundle of joy making cute little noises sleeping next to me right now!

history

We are watching a special on the History Channel about 9/11. I have a pit in my stomach just watching....I thought I would dig up this picture, though:

God bless and gig 'em.

The Bread Lady and 9/11

There is a little restaurant called The Bread Lady near Hubby's work. Yesterday, he was so kind to offer to bring me lunch, and I even got to pick where it would come from. Well, since we had never tried it, I suggested he go there. Well, given the name, one would think they sell bread. One might even think they sell sandwiches. Not so much. Clay told me the menu consisted of one thing called a cold plate. This cold plate consisted of the following:

chicken salad or egg salad or tuna salad or pimento cheese salad
and
pasta salad or potato salad
and
a pickle spear or half a hard boiled egg
and
a sweet

Really? Oh, and with these selections, you got a couple of packages of saltine crackers...no bread, as one might expect! Needless to say, it was a bit of a disappointment, and we won't be going back there anytime soon!

I can't believe it has been 8 years since that dreadful day in NYC. I remembering showing up in my statistics class and the professor asking about what he had heard happened. This was the first I had heard of anything because I had just come from an 8 am class. At the time, we didn't understand the magnitude of the morning's events. I am proud to be an American each and every day, but days like today bring that pride to a different level. Thank you to all of those who sacrificed so much that day, and thank you to those who continue to do so each and every day.

Oh, and as a follow up to yesterday's post, napping has been much better this morning! Hopefully he was just in a bit of a funk for a couple of days and we have passed that! Oh, and Heather posted a sneak peek of his newborn shots on her blog!! I think it is pretty adorable, if I might say so myself!

What happened to the morning nap?

So, Mr. Connor has decided this week that he no longer needs his morning nap. I initially thought it was an issue with me trying to put him in the crib in his room because he threw fits every time I put him down in there yesterday and Tuesday. So, today I wanted to take a nap while he did, so I put him down in his more familiar pack-n-play. Well, same melt down. It is now 11 am, and he has only had a little bit of a cat nap in my arms since we got up at 6:30 this morning. I know the poor little man has to be tired!!

Ok, it is now noon, and I think he is finally asleep...let's hope this nap sticks!

Football Season is here!

I might be slightly jealous of all the status updates on Facebook that mention tailgating, College Station, and/or Aggie Football. Sadly, I'll have to follow the game with the online tracker thing, but I will be hanging out with my family, so I'll be happy!! The Little Man is sporting some Aggie gear and snoozing with his Aggie blanket, too...

Follow Up Visit

Connor had a follow up visit to his pediatrician today. Typically newborns lose a little weight their first few days of life, which Connor did. Just to make sure he was gaining it back, we went in for a quick visit today. Apparently, we have a "healthy eater" on our hands. Not only did Connor gain back the 7 or 8 ounces he lost after birth, but he is a whole pound heavier than his birth weight! So, he weighed in at 9 lbs, 15 oz today! We don't go back until he his 2 month check up, which I am already dreading because the doctor told us he would be getting shots at that visit!!

Here are some pictures from the last few days...
