A case of the Mondays!

This afternoon was a long one.  Connor was up coughing most of the night last night.  We slept the second half of the morning on the couch because it seemed to help him being propped up a bit.  Since we were up for over an hour in the wee morning hours, he slept until past 7 this morning.  He didn't eat any of his breakfast, which is pretty unusual.  When I went to pick him up at lunch, Julie commented on his breathing sounding a bit weird.  I wasn't even half way down her driveway, when I could hear what she was talking about.  He has been congested for a couple of weeks, but this cough and now breathing stuff is new.  So, after taking a quick conference call during lunch (I had to send him back to Julie's early!  )c: ) , I loaded him up and we headed to the pedi because they have walk in care after lunch.  Doing this, you run the risk of having to wait a bit, but I didn't know if we would be able to get an afternoon appointment otherwise.  Unfortunately, this was right smack dab in the middle of nap time.

Once we finally got called back the nurse started to ask me what we were there for then said she could tell he was struggling.  We did the usual weight, temp check, etc, then we headed to the room so she could check his pulse-ox.  After more waiting, the doc came in and checked him out.  He showed me how you could visibly see the struggle he was having breathing, and suggested we do a breathing treatment.  By this time, we were way past nap time and fading fast.  The breathing treatment was TERRIBLE!!  He fought, fought, fought me.  All he wanted to do was suck his thumb and go to sleep.  When the time was up, they came back and wanted to let him settle down before checking him again.  He quickly passed out, and they checked him again.  His numbers still were not good, so we had to do another treatment.  I was hoping he would just sleep through this one, but he woke up trying to get situated.  Thankfully, this time I was a little smarter and figured out a better way to hold him.  He fought again, but not nearly as hard or long, and he passed out again. I think this treatment was a lot more effective since he was not fighting it.  Once this second treatment was over, he was checked again.  Apparently, 93 is the magic number.  At or above 93, you get to go home.  Anything less, you are sent to the hospital for oxygen.  We were hovering at 92-93.  But, since he was asleep, the dr. explained that the number usually goes up a point or two when you are awake, so based on that, we were allowed to go home!  Yipee!!  We left with an inhaler to do at home as well as another Rx.

This evening, he seemed to be feeling much better.  He still wasn't interested in eating much, but he was his playful, happy self.  He went to bed great, and so far, it has been quiet from him room.  Oh, and he took his medicine like a champ (thank you for the ability to add flavor to liquid medicine) and he did really well with his inhaler.  It was a lot less traumatic than the machine from this afternoon.

Anyway, if you stuck with me through all that rambling, I am impressed.  Here are a couple of cell phone pics from our poor little patient this afternoon!

Two quick stories

Today, Connor and I were outside playing with Aggie before we ate lunch.  It was a beautiful day, so we were just enjoying the sunshine.  Aggie was sniffing around in the area where our garden is in the summer.  There are some remnants of a few plants that we didn't pull up at the end of the season last year, so she will often mess with those and chew on some sticks.  Well, Connor was watching her, and the next thing I know, he is leaning over trying to chew on the grass like his sister!  It was hilarious!!  I got him to stand up, he took a few steps and tried it again!  He is definitely in the mimicking stage!

This evening, we went to the grocery store and to Subway for dinner.  Daddy had a dinner to go to, so Connor and I were on our own.  I should know better than to try to take an 18 month old to the grocery store at 5:30 pm.  He wasn't in the best mood, so I bribed him (GUILTY!) with a ring pop.  We got our shopping done in relative peace, and headed over to Subway.  There was quite a line, so he was still working on his ring pop while we waited.  Suddenly, he decides he is done with it and drops it on the tile floor.  It breaks into about 4 pieces.  Well, the gentleman behind me did not hesitate to pick up my son's slobbery, sticky ring pop pieces, even after I told him he really didn't need to do that!!  How kind is that?!

Before I leave, here are some recent pics of the little man "helping" with the dishes!!

Do you have a BOB?

I know several of my mommy friends have a BOB stroller, so I wanted to pass this voluntary recall information along!  Click HERE to see an article about it and HERE to go to BOB's website about the recall.  Before you get too worried, it is based on that little yellow drawstring on the canopy and the possibility of it getting caught around your child's neck.  If you do not use a sun or weather shield, you can simply remove this drawstring, and everything will be fine.  However, if you do use a shield ever (we do), you have to request a canopy kit to allow you to continue to use your shield.  (Basically, this string helps control the canopy fabric to ensure proper air flow when a shield is in use).  It affects the Revolution, and since we do have the weather shield, I have requested to kit.  We'll see how quickly it comes!!

OK...back to coloring with Connor since he has a habit of trying to eat the crayons!!

18 months

WOW!  Time really does fly by these day.  I cannot believe our little man is already 18 months old.  He will be two before we know it!

This is a really fun stage, but I think I say that at every stage.  We do have our struggles, but the fun times greatly outweigh the frustrating ones.  Connor is very sweet.  He will say bye-bye, night-night or hug random people/object.  We were getting ready for his shower (yes, we are a big boy who prefers showers these days over a bath) tonight and he said night night to his puzzle and his balloon.  We were getting ready to leave the house the other day, and he hugged his blocks.  His communication is really picking up, too.  He is in that "repeat everything we say" stage, so we really have to watch what we say!  For instance, the other day we were at a red light and when it turned green, the car in front of me didn't start going.  So, I said "GO!"  The rest of the trip, and even today, Connor has been telling me to "GO!" when we are in the car.  He will also repeat his ABCs, and his favorite number is TWO!  (He says this holding up the number one with both hands...he knows how to add!  Haha!)  He still loves books and the longest he will sit still is in my lap reading.  I love this.  Other than that, he is go-go-go.  He climbs on everything he can and is a runner.  He loves playing outside and thinks he is a big boy with all the neighborhood kiddos and their big kid toys!

Today, we went to the Dr. for his 18 month well check.  He was 29.2 lbs and 33.25" (both 75%-80%).  He was an excellent little patient.  For the first time, I felt like we could just sit there and wait, and I didn't feel like the only thing I was doing was trying to keep him entertained/out of trouble.  He also did really well during his exam (made the Dr. laugh with his antics eating his raspberries) and was a big boy getting his shot.

I am sure there are TONS of things I am leaving out, but this sums it up:  I love this kiddo!!

This weekend

Wanna know the best thing about this weekend?  It's not over!!  YIPEE for a three day weekend!  Today I get to live the life of a SAHM.  So far, we went on a run, got some laundry going, got a hair cut, played outside and had lunch at Chick-Fil-A.  This was Connor's first experience there.  He wasn't blown away...he at more blueberries that I brought than anything else!  Oh well...I won't complain!  Now he is napping, so I should be getting some more things done around the house, but I thought I'd do a quick blog first!  (c:

Anyway, we had a wonderful weekend.  The Home Depot by our house is going out of business, so we bought some shelves for our garage 40% off!  Hubby hung those as well as some pegboard in the garage and it looks great!  He did an awesome job getting everything organized.  Saturday afternoon, Connor and I had a play date with a couple of friends and their daughters.  It was good to get some friend time and for Connor to get some play time, too.  I think it is safe to say we all had a good time!!  Saturday evening we grilled burgers and enjoyed the rest of the beautiful day we had!

Sunday started with church...Connor has had some issues with the nursery since...well, forever.  He is very much attached to his mommy and has a hard time being left with new or less familiar people.  He did better this week, though, and was convinced to eat his snack.  Usually, eating is not a problem for this kid, but he usually won't even do that at church!  Breaks his mama's heart!  BUT, he did better this week, so I am hoping he is finally getting used to the girls and will eventually just play play play while we are at church!

Alright, I better get back to that laundry that is calling my name.  Then we may have to hit the park this is just too beautiful!!

These pics are a little old, but they are of my little Valentine from Valentine's Day last week!

Making a funny face...

Blowing Mommy kisses!

An overdue thank you!

I am such a slacker these days.  The great Christina gave me a blog award, and I have yet to thank her!  (Shame on me...)  Anyway, Christina was a Chi O with me, and our little guys are really close in age, so it's fun to watch little Davis growing!

So, here are the rules:
1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you - Check!
2. Share seven things about yourself - Check!
3. Award ten great bloggers - ummm...
4. Contact those bloggers and tell them about the award - see #3

So, now for my 7 things...
1.  If you read Christina's 7 things, I am going to copy her #1.  I wear workout clothes/sweats every day.  One of the perks to working at home.  (Right now I am usually in sweats, mostly because it is cold in my office because I am too cheap to set the heat upstairs higher than 67.)  Oh, and yesterday, I had on fleece pj pants, and I was called out by not one, but two neighborhood boys for "still being in my jammies"  Nice.

2.  My nickname in summer league swim team growing up was "Lungs Larson"  I could swim the 25 yard length of the pool without taking a breath at a pretty young age.  I was also the kid who essentially did a u-turn in the lane doing backstroke when I was 4.  It's on video.  I stop and look around, think I am winning and keep going back towards the beginning.  Eventually, I figured it out and finished the dead last of course!

3.  I watch too much HGTV.  I don't have the TV on during the day, but if it is on by the time Clay gets home from work, it is usually on HG.  This started when I was on maternity leave.

4.  My senior year of HS, I took a dive into the bleachers after a ball in a volleyball match.  I got the ball, but I also ended up with staples in my head.  This earned me the nickname staples and an interview on the news.

5.  I don't like winter.  I am not sure how I survived 5 years in WV.  Don't get me wrong...I love a good snow when I can look at it out the window while I am snuggled up on the couch in front of the fire.  Shoveling and scraping snow just isn't fun to me!

6.  In addition to multiple times in Belize, we have been to Jerry Jeff Walker concerts in 4 states.   (Texas, Missouri, Virginia and New York x 2)  Makes us sound like groupies, huh?  Gotta take advantage while we can!

7.  I am slowly trying to learn more about photography and photoshop.  I have used photoshop for years doing things like making invitations, etc, but haven't used it much for actual photo editing.  It's fun, but there is so much to learn!

Ok - as far as tagging 10 bloggers, I might come back and do this, but for now I am headed to bed.  My little 5 am wake up call comes early!

Cowboy Breakfast

First of all, an update on my letter from the last post.  Things have gotten better...he slept in (if that is what you can call it!) until 6:15 all on his own this morning!  (Sometimes I can snuggle him or rock him back to sleep in the mornings when he is up before 6.)  AND, he woke up talking instead of crying.  He has woken up grouchy for as long as I can remember, so it was nice to hear him talking away instead of crying!  Hopefully he is turning a corner and I am not going to have to come back and delete all this tomorrow!  {ETA:  I knew it - I spoke too wake up call came at 5:09 this morning!  What gives?!?!}

Anyway, I also feel like he has been eating tons lately.  Last night, he wanted a snack while I cooked dinner, so I gave him a banana.  He finished that then asked for more.  So, I figured I'd give him another, he's eat a bite or two of it, then give it to me to snack on.  Before I knew it, he had eaten a second banana!  I was shocked!  This is also a change, because he went on a couple month strike against bananas.  I am glad he is back to liking them again.  He still ate a good dinner, too.  He also loves oranges these days!

This is how he ate breakfast this morning.  (Yes, that is another banana in the first picture...!)

A letter to my son...

Dear Connor,

Mommy loves you more than I can put into words, BUT, we need to have a serious chat.  I don't know what your deal is these last few days with waking up so incredibly early.  I mean, I thought yesterday's 5 am wake up call was bad, but 4:30 today?  Really?  Can we please fix this?  I hope is it just an 18 month(ish) phase you are going through and that it will be over SOON because Mommy doesn't get to take a nap with you every day!

Good thing it's at least a cute wake up call.  Mommy loves you.  xoxo

PS  Oh, and if you'd go back to going to bed like your happy little self again, I'd appreciate that, too.  Thankyouverymuch.

PPS Where did this BIG boy come from?!?!
